A nice explanation of trends in SoWP membership and focus was provided by Waldo Boyd, Executive Secretary, in 1993 to–of all things–the IRS. The occasion was a request for a change in status from a fraternal (501c7) to an educational (501c3) organization. A contribution made to the latter would be tax deductible, while one made to the former would not. In documenting SoWP’s educational activities, Waldo has provided us with a good introduction to what the Society was all about.
