In going through the DeForest Radiotelephone & Telegraph Company photo album (which you can view here) we came across the unique looking vintage wireless device on wheels shown above. Unlike most of the album’s photos, there was no text written on the back or opposing page to explain what it was or give a price. After searching the web unsuccessfully for anything similar, and for wont of a better term, we took to calling it the “DeForest Wireless Wagon”.
Chief archivist Bart Lee dug deep into the past to clarify the composition and purpose of this early mobile unit. His interpretation of the device shown in the photo, which can also be found in his Vintage Vignettes section of the CHRS website, makes for some fascinating radio history reading and is reproduced here:
